THE BIRTH

It all began as a feeling in Bali in 2019, after an epic surf session in Uluwatu, underneath the shade of a palm tree, sitting with a bowl of tropical fruit, single-fin by my side and my art booklet that has seen more places than the bottom of my passport.

The feeling I was experimenting was unfamiliar but there was a hint of nostalgia to when I was a kid playing by the seashore. But it felt bigger than that—it was more than just being happy. I felt calm but also a surge of euphoria. I didn't know how to handle this sensation so I opened up my booklet and started flowing, creating aimlessly on the blank pages.

Time had slowed down.

And in that clarity, all of a sudden the words “Barrels & Orgasms” formed on my page. Goosebumps on my skin, I looked again and again at those words and smiled to myself.

And suddenly I was on an introspective, mystical journey pondering the meaning of life — why we exist, why we’re here. What for?

In our everyday lives, the meaning of life seems to get mixed-in with the complications of life. It looses meaning in the proximity of our negative aspects of humanity like jealously or ego. But the meaning of life is simple — to enjoy it — in all of its forms.

We must enjoy life — it’s the only one we have. The only one we know. So how could I recreate this feeling, this notion so simple that we mustn't forget. I decided to create a brand, but more than a brand it’s a culture, a lifestyle. A place where time can slow down. Where art lives at the intersection of provocative and nature. Where consciousness is a formed habit in the way we consume. Where playing isn’t a distraction but rather a way of living.

And there I sat, for the rest of the afternoon, smiling at the simplicity of my own equation for pleasure.
